Chapter 4
The next day when I woke up, Aunt Hui was sitting on the sofa watching TV.
Instead of getting up, she waved at me and said, "You came down at the right time.
Come help your mom mop the floor."
She sat there arrogantly, like a hostess, while my mom busied herself.
"Mom, why are you mopping the floor?" I asked, surprised.
My mom wiped the sweat off her forehead, not caring much, and mopped vigorously.
"Aunt Hui's back pain flared up today.
When she woke up this morning, she could hardly straighten her back.
She needs a rest."
I increasingly doubted if we had hired a caretaker instead of a relative.
When my parents were young, they had a tough life.
It wasn't until I started elementary school that things gradually got better.
They were hardworking and did everything themselves.
They were also known for being kind-hearted.
They let many things slide and turned a blind eye to them.
I couldn't help but say, "If your back hurts, why don't you go back to your own home and rest? Why are you working as a caretaker?"
Aunt Hui's face changed instantly upon hearing this.
"Qiao Qiao, am I still your elder? Is this how your parents taught you to talk to your elders?"
I felt the fire burning inside me and became more confrontational.
"Sorry, but now you and our family have an employer-employee relationship.
What's the point of pretending to be a relative?"
"Ack," Aunt Hui clicked her tongue, and she looked at my mom.
"This little girl has quite a temper.
She will surely suffer in society.
In the future, when she gets married, her mother-in-law will also say she has no manners.
Don't blame me for being harsh.
You and Xiaoshen spoil her too much."
