Chapter 5:
, someone knocks on my door, it's Liyan's mother.
"Xiaoyu, we forgot to buy you clothes.
Mom happens to have some free time, let's go shopping together?" She speaks with a nasal voice and sounds a bit hoarse.
I know she is trying to distract me and smooth over the sadness after just having a big fight with her precious daughter.
I don't mind: "Sure, I can take this opportunity to get to know you better, Mom." Liyan's mother is taken aback.
She suddenly realizes that she has never actively gotten to know her biological daughter.
Her nose feels sour: "I'm sorry, Mom has been so consumed by Liyan's affairs that I haven't been able to get to know you properly." Liyan's father and mother had contacted me a few times privately, but they only scheduled to pick me up when I had summer vacation.
I don't know what to say and instinctively avoid her gaze.
Seeing this, Liyan's mother starts sobbing: "No, I'm just making excuses.
It's Mom who has been avoiding, scared to face the fact that you have spent 20 years of your life so painfully, scared to face a stranger who is her daughter." I raise my eyes and look at her, somewhat stunned.
So in this family, we can speak directly and be honest with each other.
In the two families I have been with, there was never a concept of confiding in each other.
It was always three parts unspoken, leaving the other seven parts to guess.
