Chapter 5:
Late at night, my sister-in-law was awakened by my brother, and we began walking towards the mountain behind.
The path was overgrown with weeds, the only visible sign left by my brother's recent clean-up.
After all, the last time we walked here was three years ago.
The cold wind blew, and the night was chilly.
My sister-in-law shivered from the cold, "Qiángzǐ, can't we go tomorrow during the day? It's too cold today." My sister-in-law muttered a few more words, but my brother remained silent.
I could only hold her arm and continue walking.
Gradually, my sister-in-law stopped talking.
She silently followed behind my brother for the rest of the journey, and we could already see the pig buyers waiting, along with the prepared inspection counter.
My sister-in-law must have seen it too.
She let out a sigh, and I instinctively relaxed my grip.
I still felt sorry for her.
Otherwise, let's see if she can escape...
I completely let go of her hand.
Suddenly, my sister-in-law's footsteps became light, and she ran a few steps, hugging my brother's arm.
My brother was startled and didn't have time to say anything before we reached the pig buyers.
"Lìnggē, I've come to deliver the goods," my brother said as he handed over the notebook where my sister-in-law's weight was recorded daily, with her exact birth date written on the first page.
Lìnggē nodded and looked at my sister-in-law holding my brother's hand, "Your wife?" My brother nodded in agreement and had my sister-in-law lie on the stone slab.
The wind was strong at night, and the stone slab must have been bone-chilling cold.
I saw my sister-in-law's plump body shiver for a moment.
But she didn't run or hide, she did whatever my brother asked her to do.
I don't believe she didn't notice anything.
She kept staring at my brother the entire time, unblinking.
