Chapter 7:
"Wawa!" The seemingly lifeless figure suddenly trembled a few times and let out the cry of a baby, very weak.
But the night was already silent, and this sound felt like thunder in my ears.
At the same time, all the blood had already drained, and my dead sister-in-law suddenly moved her neck a few times, lifting her head.
My brother's hand also trembled, and he put the still crying baby back into the abdomen.
I could hear the sound of removing sticky flesh.
My sister-in-law half sat up, supporting herself with her hands behind her.
My brother sewed up her abdomen stitch by stitch.
My brother clasped his hands together and bowed to my sister-in-law, praying and reciting words, his voice surprisingly calm.
"The wronged have their revenge, I won't hold on to your soul any longer, help your child seek vengeance." After getting off the delivery bed, my sister-in-law didn't go home but instead touched her stomach and walked into the depths of the mountains.
Only after my sister-in-law had walked far away did I feel like my body could move, collapsing weakly to the ground.
My brother sternly scolded, "Who's there? Come out!" I couldn't even stand up, my lips trembling, unable to make a sound.
My brother approached with a knife, and when he saw it was me, his facial expression softened.
"You're the daughter from Qiangzi's family, right? How did your brother leave you here alone?" He said as he reached out his hand towards me.
I trembled like a sieve, but he just lifted me up.
"I'm not interested in a young girl like you." Despite saying this, my brother didn't let me go, he stared at me, locking eyes with me.
Subconsciously, I shifted my gaze, and his angry roar echoed in my ears.
"Look into my eyes!" I didn't dare blink, feeling a sour discomfort, and he finally let go of me.
"Little girl, can you see them?" I didn't say anything.
My brother pointed to the center of my collarbone, "Be careful, there's a woman with a rose-colored mark here, that's your sister-in-law coming back to seek revenge." He packed his things and hummed as he left, "I'll come back to collect my pig later." He truly was a strange person.
When I returned home, my mother and brother had already locked the door.
I knocked on the door, "Brother! Mother! Open the door!" I heard my mother's voice from inside.
"This girl has come back on her own, open the door." My brother was cautious, his voice much quieter than my mother's, with a hint of indifference, "What if it's our brother coming over? Once the money is in my hands, there's no reason to give it back! She's lucky she made it back alive, worst case scenario, we'll exchange her for the pig!" His voice then became louder, "We'll just have to let our brother support us for a few more years!" He believed that our brother was following behind me to deceive them into coming out.
"There's no one! Our brother didn't come with me!"
"I shouted anxiously, wanting to quickly tell my brother about what I saw.
'Brother! Open the door quickly! I have something important to tell you, about sister-in-law...' My brother suddenly became furious when he heard the word sister-in-law, and he shouted angrily.
'No matter what you say, I won't open the door.
Get lost! If you don't leave, I will chop you up with a knife, and no one will have it easy!' Turns out, whether it's true or not, he had no intention of letting me in.
There was no response from inside, and all the lights went out.
In order to slaughter the pig for the lunar new year, our family built a house in the back mountain, with no other households around.
It started snowing, and I had no choice but to hide in the woodpile outside the courtyard, attempting to endure the night.
I shivered in the cold night, half-awake and half-asleep, and it seemed like I heard a woman sigh.
