Chapter 26:
'Gu Chenbai, do you think I treat marriage as child's play?' Tu Yan sat on the hanging chair in the study, holding a cushion and tilting his head to ask.
Gu Chenbai stared intently at the computer screen, his fingers typing on the keyboard rapidly, but he still found a gap to answer Tu Yan's question: 'No, I don't.' 'Forcing you to sign the divorce agreement, then after the divorce, coming back to find you, and now wanting to remarry,' Tu Yan lay down, sinking into the wool-blanket lazily, and asked, 'Isn't this considered child's play?' Gu Chenbai finished dealing with the final document and then walked towards Tu Yan.
Seeing him coming, Tu Yan intentionally swayed the hanging chair, trying to move to the other side, but Gu Chenbai held onto the frame and didn't let him succeed.
'At that time, I was a stranger to you.
You did everything to protect yourself, and whatever you did was reasonable.
I have never blamed you.' 'Not even for the divorce agreement?' Gu Chenbai smiled and reached out to pinch Tu Yan's face, 'No, because I knew you would regret it one day.' Tu Yan swatted Gu Chenbai's hand away in disgust, 'Narcissist.'"
"Gu Chenbai lifted Tu Yan out of the hanging chair, and Tu Yan leaned softly against Gu Chenbai's chest, with one foot in slippers and the other foot playfully kicking Gu Chenbai's crutches.
Gu Chenbai curved his mouth and whispered in Tu Yan's ear, 'Bunny, do you regret our divorce?' 'No,' Tu Yan replied firmly.
'But I remember someone hiding in bed and crying the night before the divorce,' Gu Chenbai teased.
'That's not true.
You're the one who cried.
Your memory is confused,' Tu Yan retorted.
Gu Chenbai chuckled softly, 'Alright, I was the one who cried.' Tu Yan smelled the faint fragrance on Gu Chenbai's body, and his thoughts drifted back to the most difficult days over a month ago.
In Tu Yan's view, there always seemed to be a sense of fate between him and Gu Chenbai, like solving a math problem in school with the wrong method but unexpectedly arriving at the correct answer.
The beginning of their story should have been a cheesy and cliché drama that no screenwriter could come up with, but Gu Chenbai turned it into a sweet and affectionate love story.
Tu Yan had acted in so many plays, but this was the first time he had no script and simply followed Gu Chenbai's rhythm, slowly moving forward together with his joys and sorrows, as if time disappeared endlessly with the revolving clock hands.
However, things didn't go as planned, as the six-month deadline set by Tu Yan was approaching.
They had met in June during the peak of summer, endured the buzzing cicadas, flirted throughout the autumn season, and finally entered the harsh winter.
Tu Yan never expected that he would be the one to regret.
That day marked the first snowfall in the city.
Huasheng had a lot of year-end work, and Gu Chenbai often had to work overtime.
Tu Yan was bored at home, occasionally going to Gu Chenbai's office to spend some time.
Of course, he avoided people, especially Gu Chaocheng.
However, that day, Tu Yan had a stroke of bad luck.
Not only did he fail to avoid Gu Chaocheng, but he also bumped into the person he least wanted to see: Tu Feihong.
Tu Feihong had just been humiliated by Gu Chaocheng and was about to seek help from Gu Chenbai.
When he pushed open the office door, he saw Tu Yan lying on the sofa, casually propping his legs up, looking relaxed.
Tu Feihong's eyes brightened, and he was delighted, thinking that there was hope for his situation.
Upon seeing Tu Feihong, Tu Yan immediately froze in place, slowly sat up straight, and his expression turned cold.
Tu Feihong walked up to him as if he didn't notice, affectionately grabbing Tu Yan's shoulder and asking about his recent situation.
Gu Chenbai put down his work and also approached them, pouring a cup of tea for Tu Feihong.
'Mr.
Tu, what brings you here?' Tu Yan turned his head, impatiently starting to play with his phone.
'It's nothing big,' Tu Feihong smiled and sat down, loosening his bulky suit.
'The old city area is going to be renovated, and I want to secure the relocation housing project there.
But, as you know, all of my company's money has been invested in the halted project, so it's...' Tu Yan's anger surged, and he turned his head in astonishment, asking, 'Are you actually asking him for money?' Tu Feihong quickly waved his hands and said, 'No, Yan Yan, you don't understand.
This is a common occurrence between companies, it's not what you think.' Gu Chaocheng happened to walk in at that moment and, upon hearing Tu Feihong's words, sneered, 'It's quite common indeed, but why haven't we seen it so often?'"
"Tian Feihong was embarrassed and chuckled, "We're all family..." Tian Yan looked at Tian Feihong coldly, just like how the Gu family looked at him half a year ago, lowly and ridiculous.
That long-lasting sense of shame that tortured his self-esteem surged up again, making him clench his fists, with his nails sinking into his flesh.
Gu Chenbai leaned over to hold Tian Yan's hand and discreetly opened his fingers, pressing against the palm of his hand to make him relax, but Tian Yan brushed him off.
Tian Yan stood up and said to Tian Feihong word by word, "Gu Chenbai and I will get a divorce at the end of this month, and then I will have no relationship with him whatsoever.
You won't have the chance to borrow money from him in my name anymore." Tian Feihong was dumbfounded and stuttered, "Wh-what?" Gu Chaocheng also couldn't believe it, "Divorce? How long have you been married? Chenbai, you agreed too?" Gu Chenbai nodded.
Tian Feihong asked Tian Yan angrily, "Why do you want a divorce when everything is fine? Isn't Gu Chenbai good enough for you? Don't you like him?" Tian Yan blurted out without hesitation, "I don't like him.
I have already signed the divorce agreement with him." Tian Yan knew that if he said this only to Tian Feihong, he might not believe it, but when he said it in front of Gu Chenbai, there was no room for maneuvering.
Even if he didn't believe it, he had to believe it.
After Tian Feihong left the office in a state of confusion, Gu Chaocheng also left.
Before leaving, he looked at Tian Yan disgustedly, but this time, Tian Yan didn't fight back.
Because he saw Gu Chenbai sitting on the couch, with a faint expression but a sense of loss in his eyes.
He walked towards Gu Chenbai, and Gu Chenbai pulled him onto his lap and asked concernedly, "Is your hand hurting?" "Gu Chenbai..." Tian Yan's nose stung, almost bringing tears to his eyes.
