Chapter 15:
After Tu Yan got married, he stopped all his work.
It wasn't for any particular reason.
If he had to explain, this matter should be divided into three stages.
At first, he had no intention to work.
Who could have the mood to smile on camera after being forced into marriage? Later, when he met Gu Chenbai, he was left at a loss by him.
It took him half a month just to observe whether this person was good or bad, and he didn't have any thoughts of working.
Now he knew that Gu Chenbai was a good person.
Logically, he could go back to work.
However, he hesitated a bit.
Forcing Gu Chenbai to sign a divorce agreement was already going too far.
If he returned to work and had to film a movie for two or three months, their marriage wouldn't last much longer.
Wouldn't that be too pitiful for Gu Chenbai?
Gu Chenbai did ask him, and he replied that he wanted to take a break and didn't want to go back to filming.
Gu Chenbai said, "Okay, it's up to you," but couldn't hide his happiness in his eyes.
Tu Yan wondered, why is Gu Chenbai so foolish? He's already 26 years old but still acts like a high school student with unrequited love.
He didn't know what Gu Chenbai was up to.
It was raining heavily that day, and Tu Yan always felt drowsy on rainy days.
He played a game while leaning against the headboard, but his eyelids were getting heavy.
He decided to put down his phone and take a nap.
When he woke up, it was already 6:30, and he felt hungry, so he called out, "Gu Chenbai," but there was no response.
He felt strange and got out of bed, wearing his slippers and pushing open the study door, only to find that Gu Chenbai wasn't there at all.
Gu Chenbai hadn't returned home, nor did he call him.
Normally, Gu Chenbai would take care of him like a child and inform him in advance even if he returned a few minutes late.
Tu Yan picked up his phone and checked the call logs, and indeed, there were no missed calls from Gu Chenbai.
Tu Yan looked at the heavy rain outside and felt a sense of unease.
After much hesitation, he finally dialed Gu Chenbai's phone number, but nobody answered after half a minute of ringing.
Tu Yan felt that something was wrong, so he called Gu Chenbai's driver and asked when Gu Chenbai finished work.
Gu Chaocheng responded impatiently, "You don't even know when your husband finishes work?" Tu Yan disliked hearing Gu Chaocheng's voice, but he couldn't argue with him since he was Tu Feihong's creditor.
He reluctantly said, "He hasn't come back yet, and I can't reach him on his phone, so I came to ask you." Gu Chaocheng was stunned and said, "Chenbai hasn't returned home? He went back before five o'clock.
I saw him get into the elevator." Tu Yan hung up the phone and called Gu Chenbai's driver again.
The driver said, "Mr.
Gu said he wanted to go to the supermarket to buy ingredients for making a cake.
I was waiting outside, but I received an urgent call from home, so Mr.
Gu told me to go first and said he would take a taxi back later.
Why? Hasn't Mr.
Gu come home yet?" Tu Yan panicked this time.
He noted down the supermarket Gu Chenbai went to, put on his coat and mask, grabbed the umbrella by the door, and rushed out into the rain.
Tu Yan ran from his home to the entrance of the residential complex, constantly looking from side to side, afraid of missing Gu Chenbai's figure.
He ran too fast and with a mask on, he soon couldn't catch his breath.
He took off the mask and didn't care if people recognized him.
He ran into the food section of the supermarket, looked around, and waited at the entrance, but he didn't see Gu Chenbai.
His heart sank.
He suddenly felt terrified, an unknown fear gripping him rapidly.
Just as he was about to rush back into the rain to go to the security room of the residential complex and have them check the surveillance footage, he saw Gu Chenbai sitting at a nearby bus stop.
His coat was wet from the rain, and the umbrella was placed beside him.
A few strands of his hair fell on his forehead, but he sat upright, without a trace of disarray.
People around him were running and hurrying, rainwater disrupting everyone's rhythm, car horns and shouting voices intertwining, piercing the eardrums.
Only Gu Chenbai remained calm and quiet, as if abandoned by the world.
Tu Yan walked towards him.
He held the umbrella over Gu Chenbai's head, and Gu Chenbai reacted a beat slower.
When he looked up, his eyes went from light to intense, suddenly became radiant.
He said, "My little rabbit, why are you here?" It was then that Tu Yan noticed how pale Gu Chenbai's complexion was.
Tu Yan looked down at him coldly, "Where is your phone? Why aren't you answering the call?" Gu Chenbai didn't answer immediately.
He first lowered his gaze, then forced himself to look up under Tu Yan's strong gaze.
His lips moved, and finally he reluctantly told the truth, "My phone just fell into a puddle.
I picked it up too slowly, and now it won't turn on." Tu Yan's nose tingled, and he said, "You're so clumsy," but still reached out his hand to Gu Chenbai and said, "Let's go home." Gu Chenbai stood up holding his hand, but his body suddenly swayed twice.
Only then did Tu Yan notice that his cane was missing.
"Just when I came out of the supermarket, a child bumped into me and knocked it off.
There were too many people at the time, and I was only focused on stepping back.
I was planning to pick it up after the crowd had dispersed, but I couldn't find it." Gu Chenbai spoke with his eyes cast down, as if he had done something wrong.
As soon as he finished speaking, Tu Yan turned and left.
He called out to him, but he was afraid of attracting attention from the people around them and exposing Tu Yan's identity, so he remained silent.
He sat back down and was thinking about when the rain would stop so that he might be able to walk back.
But after a few minutes, he saw Tu Yan driving his own car over, stopping at the intersection.
Tu Yan got out of the car with an umbrella and walked over.
Without saying a word, he supported Gu Chenbai's arm and pressed his weight against him, asking, "Can you walk?" Gu Chenbai hastily said, "Yes." After getting Gu Chenbai into the car and closing the door, Tu Yan walked to the driver's seat.
He vaguely felt that the people at the bus station were looking at him with curious eyes.
He inexplicably felt angry and sent a cold glance over, causing the person to immediately turn their head in fright.
When they arrived home, Gu Chenbai hurriedly urged Tu Yan to take a shower, not wanting him to catch a cold.
Tu Yan's face was cold as he pushed Gu Chenbai toward the bathroom, glaring at him threateningly, "Mind your own business!" Gu Chenbai's expression was complicated, and his tone was strange as he softly said, "Rabbit, I'm sorry for causing you trouble." Tu Yan froze and looked at Gu Chenbai in disbelief.
"I'm always too confident, thinking I can do anything." After saying that, Gu Chenbai turned and went into his own shower.
Tu Yan saw the shopping bag on the shoe cabinet at the entrance, containing the ingredients for making tiramisu.
He had casually mentioned it yesterday, but Gu Chenbai went out in the rain today just to buy them, making himself look like this.
In fact, Gu Chenbai was originally a very proud person.
After finishing his shower, Tu Yan ordered takeout for both of them and then walked to Gu Chenbai's room.
He saw Gu Chenbai sitting on the bed tinkering with his phone.
Tu Yan walked over with a dry towel, feeling Tu Yan's presence, Gu Chenbai put down his phone.
Before he could speak, Tu Yan stuffed the towel into Gu Chenbai's arms and crawled into Gu Chenbai's bed, lifting the blanket and sitting inside, calmly ordering, "Wipe my hair for me." Gu Chenbai was stunned for a moment and only regained his senses after a few seconds.
He spread the towel over Tu Yan's hair and gently wiped it.
Tu Yan leaned against Gu Chenbai without saying a word.
He was wearing a robe, and his bare legs accidentally brushed against Gu Chenbai's knee.
Gu Chenbai didn't move, and an ambiguous atmosphere gradually emerged.
"Your phone still won't turn on?" "Mhm." "Isn't Gu Chaocheng a phone salesman?"
"Let him send one over tomorrow," Tu Yan raised her head, fluttering her eyelashes.
"Is there something important in this phone?" Gu Chenbai replied, "Yes, many of your photos." Tu Yan chuckled, and Gu Chenbai put down the towel, silently locking eyes with Tu Yan.
After a long while, he spoke, "I have never felt insecure about my physical flaws, but today, I wish you hadn't appeared there because I didn't want you to see me in a wretched state." Before Gu Chenbai could finish, Tu Yan hugged him.
Tu Yan's embrace was small and not warm enough, but his initiative surpassed all words.
