Chapter 18:
Time passed second by second, and I stood in place, at a loss for what to do.
[Countdown, 10, 9, 8, 7...] The mechanical voice cruelly reported the countdown.
The time wasn't up yet, but I already felt a substantial angina in my heart.
Fear engulfed me like a tide, tears streamed down from my eyes, rolling down my pale cheeks.
"Nanzhe..." I unconsciously called out that name.
[3, 2, 1, 0...] More intense pain than the previous two times surged in.
I curled up in pain, clenched my teeth, and let out agonizing moans, my eyes filled with panic, helplessness, and no focus.
It hurts...
no one can save me.
At that moment, I realized this so clearly.
"Qu Zhichu." In a haze of consciousness, it seemed like I heard a familiar voice calling my name.
Who is it?
The figure in the distance quickly approached me until stopping in front of me, and shouted again.
"Qu Zhichu!" I reluctantly opened my tear-blurred eyes and met a pair of deep, black eyes filled with panic and worry.
Nan Zhe? My lips moved silently, calling out his name.
"I'm here," he replied softly.
He squatted down and reached out his hand to touch me but hesitated, afraid it would cause me more discomfort.
I weakly grabbed onto his sleeve.
My voice was barely audible, weakly asking, "Can you...
kiss me?" Nan Zhe's eyes flickered with shock.
I was in too much pain.
In that moment, I couldn't think of anything else.
I just wanted the antidote.
