Chapter 24:
The empress consort once subtly asked me why, despite my deep affection for His Majesty, we still have no offspring.
I smiled and said, "I had a miscarriage back then, which damaged my foundation.
I'm afraid I won't be able to have children in the future." Her hand holding the tea cup trembled, her face turning pale.
She treated me even better after that.
All the things that she had and did not exceed, she always left me with a little more.
Even the fabric for the child's clothes was chosen by her and me together.
I watched as the crown prince grew little by little, learning to call his father the emperor, his queen the empress consort, and finally calling me softly, "queen." So adorable.
Such a likable child, with the empress consort as his queen, a member of a prestigious family, and with a respected scholar as his tutor, teaching him about propriety, righteousness, integrity, and shame, and later imparting to him strategies for ruling the country.
As for me, I just held him and read to him word by word, sentence by sentence, "Water can carry a boat, but it can also capsize it.
If a ruler always thinks of danger, then danger will never approach."
