Chapter 7
- Anger surged within me.
I didn't expect that even in a society under the rule of law, there would still be such outrageous villages in the deep mountains and old forests.
After getting out, I must report them to the police and apprehend them all.
We were tied together, with Jiang Haoyan at the front and me at the back.
Xiao Hou held the rope, leading us deeper into the village.
As we walked, I became more and more surprised.
All these adobe houses looked exactly the same, with similarly sized locust trees planted at the door.
Moreover, the paths twisted and turned, forming an Eight Trigrams formation.
If outsiders recklessly ventured in, they might not be able to find their way out.
Finally, we reached the back of the village after passing through the entire village, where there was a red brick house.
Xiao Hou stopped there, untying us while humming a tune off-key.
Accompanied by the melody, there was a rhythmic knocking sound coming from a water tank at the entrance of the house: "Dong-dong-dong..." Everyone turned to look at the water tank, while Xiao Hou ignored it and continued humming his tune.
Nearby, a group of elderly men and women stared at us with stern faces, not uttering a word.
The scene was extremely eerie.
Unable to hold back, I asked, "Boss Xiao Hou, what's in the water tank?" Xiao Hou impatiently glared at me.
"Don't ask what you shouldn't ask.
It's a rule in the village that no one can open the water tank, got it?" I nodded.
"Okay."
With that, he dashed over in one swift step and kicked off the wooden cover of the water tank.
It was a joke.
I listen to whatever you say, am I the protagonist or are you? Everyone in the village was stunned by this unexpected turn of events.
The old men and women who were watching nearby let out piercing screams, as if they had all become young girls and returned to their eighteen-year-old selves.
Xiao Hou's face changed greatly, and he quickly rushed over to grab my arm.
But it was too late.
I leaned over and looked into the water tank.
"Fuck!"
"What are you doing here?"
