Chapter 14:
When we returned to the red brick house in the village, it was already completely dark.
The fluorescent lights on the ceiling flickered, with dim and bleak light.
There were several piles of straw in the corner, a square table in the middle of the room, with a plate of steamed buns, a pot of water, and surprisingly, two side dishes.
Watching us enter the house, Boss Hou closed the door and pointed to the pile of straw.
"Eat up and sleep here when you're done." After a day of work, everyone else was exhausted.
Dage rushed forward and grabbed a steamed bun, wolfing it down.
The elderly group followed suit, while only Jiang Haoyan and I stood beside them, salivating.
Boss Hou looked at us in confusion: "Why aren't you two eating?" Jiang Haoyan shook his head: "I'm not hungry." Just as he finished speaking, his stomach made a long rumbling sound.
I waved my hand: "Oh come on, why pretend? There's something wrong with these steamed buns.
We won't eat them!" Boss Hou was stunned and suddenly burst into laughter.
"Hahaha, no wonder you're Master Qiao.
I knew I couldn't fool you, but it's a pity that you found out too late." After speaking, he clapped his hands, and as he did, Dage and the elderly group who had finished eating the steamed buns covered their necks, their eyes rolling back as they collapsed to the ground.
The door was pushed open, and a group of well-dressed men with knives and sticks walked in.
"Master Qiao, hand over the 'Green Pouch Canon' and we may spare your life." My heart skipped a beat.
The "Green Pouch Canon" was passed down by Huangshi Gong at the end of the Qin Dynasty and the beginning of the Han Dynasty.
It was the first Feng Shui manual with written records in Chinese history.
The version now circulating has only four hundred words, but only a few people know that the real complete version has over four thousand words and has always been in the hands of our Qiao family.
"I've already handed over such an antique to the country a long time ago.
Go to the museum to get it."
"Watch me resist, Boss Hou got angry and waved his hand.
The big men waved their knives and sticks, ready to charge at us.
I quickly hid behind Jiang Haoyan and shouted, 'Close the door! Release the dogs!' Jiang Haoyan: 'Huh?' Just as he finished speaking, there was a harsh noise outside the door, as if someone was scratching the door forcefully with long nails.
It sent shivers down our spines.
Through the crack in the door, a gust of eerie wind blew in, accompanied by a strong smell of decay.
Boss Hou stood next to the door, almost vomiting.
'Who the hell is outside?'
