Chapter 4:
The taste of coffee in the pantry was so strong that it felt like it was about to overflow.
I stirred it with a spoon, took a sip, and felt a sour reflux in my stomach.
My colleague stared with dissatisfaction.
'Why does he get to take your position just because he was parachuted in? Is going through the back door that boldly and openly acceptable?' 'Zhe ge, aren't you angry?' 'Clearly, this position belongs to you.
You've been working so hard, last time you almost ended up in the hospital from working overtime.' His gaze fell on me and he said, 'Zhe ge, I'm not saying this to pick on you, but you don't need to work so hard, drink less coffee.' The warmth of the coffee transferred to my hand through the ceramic cup, and I whispered, 'General Jiang must have his own considerations.' My colleague narrowed his eyes, ready to complain in a low voice, when suddenly a cell phone rang abruptly.
Jiang Yu's voice was incredibly clear in the cramped pantry, carrying a suppressed anger.
'Jiang Zhe, come to my office.' The cup in my hand trembled and a few drops of coffee stained my white shirt.
Even through the fabric, the heat was scorching my skin.
I quietly responded, 'Okay.'
